“Amen, blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might, be to our God forever and ever. Amen.” Revelation 7:12
In Revelation chapter 12 we’re given a glimpse of this innumerable multitude of redeemed Gentiles from every nation, tongue and tribe standing before the throne in heaven soaking in their first glimpse of the Eternal One. Surrounding the throne are angels, elders and four living creatures who fall on their faces and worship God by saying, “Amen, blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might, be to our God forever and ever. Amen.”
I love that the worship is sandwhiched by “Amens.” As Christians, we tag our prayers with the expected “Amen,” but we don’t begin them that way. What does amen really mean? It means, “So be it.” In other words, we’re agreeing with God. We’re saying, “May it be so. Your will be done.”
Much of my daily time with the Lord is spent getting me to the point of agreement. While I’m praying and reading His Word, during the process of meditating on His truth, He transforms my will to His. He works on me until I can say, “So be it.”
How cool would it be to not just arrive at the “so be it” by the end of my prayer, but to start out that way? What if I could begin each day with a “so be it” attitude? How would my life and my faith be different if I were willing to approach the Father with a heart that says, “No matter what comes my way today, so be it. Your will be done, not mine. I agree with your plan. So be it. Amen and Amen.”
Father, help us sound the Amen. Empower us to live so be it lives for Your glory!
