Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. John 17:17
You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand and they shall be as frontals on your forehead. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.” (Deuteronomy 6:5-9)
This weekend our family, along with hundreds of others, grabbed permanent markers and literally laid down a foundation of God’s Word. We wrote favorite Scriptures across the expanse of c0ncrete flooring in what will soon become our local house of worship.
“Preach the Word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction”(2 Timothy4:2) marks the spot where the pulpit will reside. Near the baptistery you read, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins . . .” (Acts 2:38) And on the 11th step on the left hand side of the stairs in the foyer one friend added, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11). She intends to return often to that exact location and pray through that verse. Even though by then carpeting will cover her handiwork, she’ll know the truth that lies beneath and she’ll be reminded to trust her Heavenly Father.
The transformation from an old Winn Dixie grocery store to a building suitable for a weekly gathering of the bride of Christ in Oldham County, Kentucky has been underway for months. Where once loaves of bread and bottled water were sold, now a living, breathing congregation of Christ followers will freely give out the Bread of Life and offer Living Water. And, all the while we’ll be standing on the Word of Truth – that firm foundation that will not allow our foot to slip (Psalm 121:3).
