The last post gave a quick report after Monday’s Dr. appointment, but just wanted you to hear, as Paul Harvey would say, “The rest of the story.”
We went into the oncologist office this past Monday feeling led of the Lord to basically ask for the doctor’s blessing on setting aside a period of time to be off of Tarceva. During this time off, we would be trusting the Lord for weight gain, strength and to really reveal the healing He has done. We knew that the strong possibility existed that the doctor would not feel able to bless this plan since he believes so strongly in the effectiveness of Tarceva for me in particular.
So, we gathered a small group for prayer and sent word to all of you to pray for clear direction. We asked the Lord to even use the Dr.’s response as confirmation that we were listening correctly. Once again, the Lord moved in miraculous ways and accomplished amazing things! After my exam, my doctor suggested an every-other-day regimen of Tarceva to help my body gain weight and strength, but then he added, “Unless you have another idea.” Talk about an open door! He asked us!!
Daniel 1:9 “Now God granted Daniel favor and compassion in the sight of the commander of the officials . . .”
We talked with him about Daniel chapter 1 and the testing period that compared Daniel and his buddies on the kosher, veggie diet to the rest of the trainees dining on the King’s rich food. Our goal: to trust that God’s work over the break would to be so evident in me that I would come out at the end noticeably stronger and healthier than if I’d continued on the “logical,” traditional path.
The Doctor’s response – 1) if you’re going to do this, now would be the time (we received this as confirmation of God’s timing and a direct answer to prayer); 2) He could support a 4-week break; and 3) He never once said he would discourage us from doing this nor did he recommend against it! He then stepped out of the room to take a phone call. By the time he came back in, he had decided to schedule tests (x-ray, blood work & possible CT) five weeks out with my next appointment in his office scheduled six weeks out to review results. He moved from a 4-week break to a 6-week break in a matter of minutes!
Daniel and friends passed their test with flying colors. “At the end of ten days their appearance seemed better and they were fatter than all the youths who had been eating the king’s choice food.” Daniel 1:15
For Daniel, 10 days. For us, 6 weeks. You all are such a huge part of this journey. Your faith expressed in prayer and fasting partners with ours as we expect God’s mighty right arm to swing. May His work be obvious to all and His great name be praised!
Wow! So exciting to see prayers answered. Our family continues to pray for you and we anxiously await to hear how your follow-up exam goes!
God is always listening to our requests. He does work in many wonderful ways and he answered your many prayers.

Dear Kristen: GOD is Great and he is going to help you beat this terrible Cancer. I have peace in my heart that GOD is going to answer not just my prayer for you but for everyone who prays for you and your family. Here is my prayer to you: Dear GOD: You are such an awsome GOD and Almighty GOD and I know you know what is best for Kristen Sauder. She is your faithful servant who has a journey and a job to do to lead others to CHRIST and she need your strength and healing powers to radiate in her body and to be renewed in your house and temple. Please let her be positive and never give up hope or faith in you. Thank you for her and Kurt and I PRAISE and glory to you for answering my prayer for her and for others who pray for her. What a beautiful testimony to God’s amazing grace and faithfulness to respond to your total surrender and dependence upon Him.
