Hebrews 12
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses,
let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles.
And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus,
the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross,
scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
(Hebrews 12:1-2)
I woke up with the verse on my mind. Let us lay aside every weight and every sin that so easily entangles and let us run with patient-perseverance the race marked out for us, looking unto Jesus the Author and Perfecter of our faith.
• I’m weighted down. I haven’t been laying them aside.
• What are the sins? People pleasing? Pride? Disobedience?
• I’ve been entangled – not free
• Race marked out for me? I don’t need to run someone else’s race
• Patience/Perseverance/Endurance – long race, like a marathon
Look to Jesus – Thou wilt keep us in perfect peace who’s eyes are fixed on Thee because we trust in Thee.
1) I must pray to recognize the encumbrances – I can’t tell them on my own.
2) Am I running with endurance?
3) Forgive me for getting off course whey I’m not running the race You set before me.
4) My eyes haven’t been fixed on Jesus. Fix them on You.
