One year ago today, I whispered my last words to Kristen in her ear. They were words that I had repeated over and over again to her for more than 22 years. My final words to her were “I love you”– three of the most powerful words you can say to another human being.
I am so glad that we shared those three words, back and forth, thousands of times over the years. It was an absolute joy and delight to look my bride in the eyes and tell her those three words. We used to tell each other, “You are my favorite!” And then we’d voice those precious three words again: “I love you”.
She never got tired of me telling her that! Many times, she would look back at me after I would tell her those three words and she would question me and say “Really? You really love me?” And almost every time, I would respond back to her and say “Honey, not only do I love you, but I’m crazy about you”.
It was the greatest honor and privilege of my life to love Kristen. And I’m so glad that my last three words spoken to her were “I love you”.
How about you? Who are the people that need to hear those three precious words from your lips? Someone is probably coming to mind right now– someone who needs you to look them in the eye and tell them, with heartfelt sincerity, “I love you”. You never know when your last opportunity will be to share those three precious words!
One of my dearest friends, a preacher buddy, just reminded me the last three words Kristen heard on Earth were “I love you”– and probably the first words she heard in Heaven were “Well done, good and faithful servant.” What an awesome combination! (That sounds like another blog entry for down the road!)
Love, Kurt
