Jesus said quite a few “I Am” statements: I am the bread of life. I am the door. I am the good shepherd. I am the way the truth and the life. But my favorite is: I am the resurrection and the life, he who believes in me will live even though he dies.
“I am the resurrection…” was in John 11 where Jesus is just about to raise Lazarus from the dead. Lazarus had been in the tomb for several days when Jesus cries out and he is brought back to life! But because Lazarus is mortal and a sinner like each of us, he died again. We don’t know the details of when and how he passed away the second time. But we know he did because the Bible teaches that all die.
In contrast, when Jesus died on the cross to pay the price for our sins, He arose on the 3rd day and is alive forevermore. How do we know this? Because hundreds of people saw him to verify his resurrection and eye witnesses also saw him ascended into heaven.
If Jesus did not rise from the dead, there would be no hope for any of us: no Christianity, no Bible as we know it, and we would still be dead in our sin.
Hallelujah for the resurrection! Just this week Chad Russell and myself were able to sit down with Dr. Brian Payne for our weekly radio show and we interviewed him regarding the resurrection. You can hear this special resurrection show on Friday night at 9 PM, Saturday morning at 10 AM and Sunday at 12 noon on 94.7fm–or you can listen to our podcast which will be available on Monday by going to iTunes, sound cloud and type in solid steps radio. You can also go to Further Still Ministries and click on the listen button.
Hope you have a wonder- filled Resurrection Sunday as you celebrate the miracle of Jesus!
Love and Blessings,
Kurt
